One-day Capacity building training for Police Officials (Islamabad)

SHARP-PAKISTAN conducted a training workshop for 23 police officials at Police Lines Headquarter, H 11 Islamabad on 22nd November, 2018; with the collaboration of UNHCR, for the purpose of enhancing their knowledge about Refugee rights through respective sessions on Human rights and refugee rights.

Mr. Mudassar Javed, Director SHARP-PAKISTAN gave concise introduction of SHARP as well as held session on Human rights and highlighted that without having clear picture of Human rights one cannot bring the positive and dynamic change in the society. He mentioned that Society for human rights and prisoners’ Aid is an Implementing partner of UNHCR, a non–government and non-profit organization, which is working for refugees in different parts of Pakistan, through designated offices in Karachi, Lahore, MianWali, Islamabad and KPK.

SHARP is providing free legal Aid, advice, and assistance to Afghan, non-Afghans Refugees and Asylum seekers in Pakistan, under UNHCR mandate.

Mr. Waseem Rehman from UNHCR, presented session on refugee’s rights, he briefly discussed the rights and obligations of refugees under Geneva Convention, 1951 and 1967’s protocols. He also briefed that registered Afghans can stay in Pakistan till 30th June, 2019 and section 14 of the Foreigner’s Act doesn’t attract the refugees as they have legal documents to stay in Pakistan.

Mr. Liaqat Banori shared the vote of thanks and presented souvenirs to the chief guest AIG Mr. Kamran Adil, DSP Mr. Bakhtiar Ahmed (Principal PTS) and distributed certificates among the participators.
