About the Project:

SHARP is implementing this project with support of SDC in Peshawar, D.I.Khan, Kohat and Mardan. The project is a new initiative of SHARP-SDC regarding refugee protection in targetted areas of KPK.

The proposed project is drawn upon the aspiration of Afghan refugees, the government of Pakistan, Afghanistan and UNHCR. The activities identified are based on the experiences, best practices and lessons learnt which SHARP has gained over a period of 15 years working with Afghan refugees. The areas selected are based on the fact that refugees are facing protection issues and the areas are underserved. SHARP will closely coordinate the project activities with UNHCR, CAR, Embassy of Afghanistan, government relevant institutions and NGOs working in those locations.

Project Goal:

Provision of protection services for Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Project Objectives:

  • Objective 1: To provide legal aid/assistance to Afghan refugees to help ensure their protection from harassment, extortion and illegal detention in selected refugee villages and hosting areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
  • Objective 2: To build capacity of civil society organizations (CSO), media, lawyers and relevant government authorities on human and refugee rights, national and international obligations.
  • Objective 3: To promote social cohesion at community level to ensure refugees protection in the wake of any security scenario.


Project Outcome:

  1. 1- 710 police, lawyers, media, Public prosecutors and judiciary sensitized on refugees protection issues, refugee rights and government agreements;
  2. 2- 100 Afghan refugees including women and provided services through referral mechanism;
  3. 3- 800 stakeholders, local government and local community members engaged for on consultative dialogues on refugees issues and solution strategies and through seminars on social cohesion.
  4. 4- 75,000 refugees sensitized through distribution of IEC material on protection mechanism, GBV issues and harmful traditional practices;
  5. 5- 2300 afghan refugees including men, women, girls and students both girls and boys and relevant stakeholders engaged through 16 days of activism, world refugee day and international youth day
  6. 6- 50,000 refugees targeted through radio broadcast/messages;
  7. 7- 1350 Afghan refugees directly benefit from legal aid/camps while 1500 men, women and girls will directly benefit from awareness raising sessions on psychosocial assistance;
  8. 8- Afghan refugees are released before trail in police stations
  9. 9- 131,760 Afghan refugees live dignified life through enhanced accessibility to legal aid and psychosocial assistance.
