Team ALAC-II Lahore organized a training session for police officials yesterday at DPO Office Gujrat, aiming to enhance understanding and sensitivity towards Human Rights and Refugee Rights. The session commenced with an opening by ALAC Lawyer Ms. Farzana Kouser, who introduced SHARP’s work and its longstanding partnership with law enforcement in advancing legal protections for vulnerable communities.
FM Ms. Arooj Un Nissa facilitated a comprehensive session on fundamental human rights principles, while UNHCR’s Ms. Ghazala Mirza provided an in-depth overview of international refugee law and the obligations of law enforcement under international and national frameworks.
PD-ICT Mr. Aatif Afzal delivered an insightful talk on the centrality of human rights in policing, highlighting how a solid human rights foundation is crucial before delving into refugee protection frameworks.
The workshop was graced by Mr. Rai Muhammad Riaz Mehar (DPO Gujrat) as Chief Guest, who commended SHARP’s continued capacity building efforts, stating: “Such professional and timely engagements are not only essential for capacity-building but also strengthen institutional commitment to safeguarding the rights of all individuals, including refugees. SHARP’s initiative deserves the highest appreciation.”
Among the active participants were Mr. Muhammad Naeem (DSP HQs), SHOs from various police stations, Inspectors, SIs, ASIs, and members of the Security Branch. Notably, Inspector Ms. Farzana, Mr. Arslan, Mr. Wahab Gillani, Mr. Itrat Shah, and Ms. Aqsa enriched the discussions through their thoughtful participation.
