SHARP ALAC team in Mianwali successfully organized a training workshop on Human Rights and Refugee Laws at the Police Lines, Mianwali, for police officials. A total of 36 officers (27 male and 9 female) from District Mianwali participated in the session, which aimed to sensitize police personnel on human and refugee rights within the context of national and international legal frameworks.
Mr. Afzal Khan, DSP Headquarters Mianwali, attended the event as Chief Guest, while Mr. Aatif Afzal, Project Director-ICT, also graced the occasion with his presence. Ms. Amina Taj, lawyer, opened the session with a brief introduction to SHARP’s mission, key projects, and ongoing efforts in legal aid and protection.
Mr. Aatif Afzal delivered an insightful presentation on human rights, highlighting their relevance under both national and international laws. This was followed by a comprehensive briefing by Mr. Imran Khan Yousafzai, Field Manager, who discussed UNHCR’s mandate, principles of national and international protection, refugee law, and the current situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Afzal Khan appreciated the SHARP initiative for building the capacity of law enforcement officials to address the rights and needs of vulnerable populations. The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, jointly conducted by Mr. Afzal Khan and Mr. Aatif Afzal, to acknowledge the active participation of the attendees.
