SHARP establishes office in Kabul after getting registered with Afghan government, soon to commence specialised services.
After serving Afghan refugees for more than two decades in Pakistan, of late SHARP realized that the organisation has capacity and potential to work and contribute towards cross-border interventions more effectively by applying its goodwill and strong coordination and ties with Afghans refugee communities. SHARP teams and Afghan refugees have developed trust relationship over the years which has the potential to be very beneficial for both returnees and the donors to channelize and streamline cross-border activities and programming. SHARP, thus, was encouraged by the Governemnt of Afghanistan to work in Afghanistan and we are grateful to the Afghan Government for not only facilitating with formal registration of SHARP in Afghanistan but also offering support to SHARP in Afghanistan.
SHARP has now established its office in Kabul and is ready to extend its specialized services in the field of protection, emergency response, shelter, skill development, livelihood trainings, education and community-based interventions by assuring to prove the difference in responding to the challenges up to the best expectations of the donors working on common cause of protecting and facilitating refugees and performing obligations to provide all possible support to reintegrate and rehabilitate the displaced communities to lead peaceful and dignified lives.
Society for Human Rights & Prisoners’ Aid (SHARP) is a registered, non-profit and non-governmental organization working in Pakistan since 1999 for refugees, asylum seekers, prisoners, women, children, immigrants, anti human trafficking and emergencies through provision of protection services including legal aid and assistance, psychosocial counselling and support, advocacy, awareness, referral mechanism, capacity development and Liaising with national and international communities, institutions and relevant stakeholders.
Over the course of nearly quarter to a century, SHARP has been providing multiple services to Afghan refugees and asylum seekers, IDPs and stateless persons related to camp management, shelter services, CBP, education, livelihood trainings and skill development in partnership with UNHCR and other donors in Pakistan including EU, Swiss Development Corporation and IOM for integrated protection services to refugees across Pakistan and with German embassy for improving infrastructure of jails and skill development of prisoners and capacity building of prison authorities and with IsDB for skill development for women and informal education for street children.
SHARP has always been the first contact point for millions of Afghan refugees and our staff has been accessible to facilitate Afghan refugees 24×7 where refugees have been given priorities based on their protection needs for the provision of timely assistance, support and solutions through early intervention approach and it is quite evident from the longest partnership which reflects the trust and confidence of UNHCR in SHARP.
SHARP has strong presence across Pakistan with experienced and professional teams in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh provinces with 12 offices and more than 200 staff members serving beneficiary communities. SHARP has not only maintained all the international standards in its policies and protocols but also strict monitoring systems are in place for ensuring transparency and highest level of professional standards. SHARP has vast multifaced experience in different sectors and has vision, capacity and experience working in many fields mentioned above and has capacity to plan and implement solution-orientated projects and programs. SHARP has served millions of Afghan refugees in last 23 years by providing protection and RSD services. Only in the current year (2022), more than three hundred thousand Afghans contacted SHARP in various offices in Pakistan.
