Enhancing Legal Expertise of Public Prosecutors
The SHARP Protection Project team successfully conducted two back-to-back capacity-building workshops with the High Court and District Public Prosecution Departments in Islamabad. The training aimed to strengthen coordination and collaboration with prosecution officials while sensitizing them to international humanitarian laws, national and international legal frameworks, protection mechanisms, and the role of prosecutors in safeguarding human rights.
Mr. Mudassar Javed, CEO SHARP, addressed the participants on the current protection environment, highlighting the importance of upholding human rights and rule of law. He underscored the crucial role of prosecutors as custodians of justice and expressed gratitude for their dedication to strengthening the judicial system.
Mr. Aatif Afzal, Project Director, warmly welcomed the participants, outlining the objectives of the training and highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by Afghan nationals and migrants. Mr. Syed Muhammad Saleem, Project Coordinator, provided a comprehensive overview of SHARP’s protection initiatives, emphasizing the organization’s 25 years of dedicated service and its commitment to protecting marginalized communities.
The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Aneela Sarfaraz, Senior Legal Expert, and Mr. Waqas Ahmed, Protection Lawyer. Additionally, Protection partner’s colleagues, Barrister Irum, Mr. Zille Hassan and Ms. Reham, actively engaged participants in interactive discussions. The training incorporated presentations, group exercises, and case studies, with valuable insights and recommendations gathered during the interactive Q&A session.
The session concluded with remarks from the Chief Guest, Federal Prosecutor General Mr. Ghulam Sarwar Nihung, and Guest of Honor, District Public Prosecutor Mr. Choudry Naseem Zia. Both dignitaries commended SHARP’s management and team for organizing successful trainings and reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration with SHARP.
