Each year on June 20, the United Nations, United Nation’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and civil society organizations around the world host World Refugee Day events in order to draw the public’s attention to the millions of refugees and Internally displaced persons. The year 2019 was celebrated with the theme ’’Step With Refugees’’.
Islamabad:
In Islamabad, a grand event was organized by UNHCR in collaboration with SHARP.
The event took place at Mariott Hotel Islamabad where a large no. of participants including Afghan community (elders, women and children) attended the event. Chief Guest was Minster of SAFRON Mr. Sheryar Afridi. Other attendees included the Head of UNHCR, notified dignitaries from Embassies, Missions and International organizations, media, NGO professionals, lawyers, civil society professionals, children and youth etc.

Mardan:
SHARP-SDC Mardan office celebrated the World Refugee Day on June 19th , 2019. A Cricket Match was played between RV Zangal Patai, Dargai and RV Jalala, Mardan at Government Degree College, Dargai Playground.
Kohat:
SHARP-SDC Kohat office celebrated the World Refugee Day on 18th of June at Ghulam Banda and Ghamkol camps. Mr. Abdul Rehman (UNHCR), Mr. Gohar Zaman (CDU), local community members and elders from different Refugee camps joined the event. Speakers delivered comprehensive speeches and shared their views on the importance of the Day. Various activities were also performed with Refugee kids including Role-play competition, banana eating challenge, Afghani cultural dress competition and dance competition etc. Finally, prizes and gift hampers were distributed among children.
