One-day Capacity Building Training Session for Punjab Police Officials at the Police Training School Rawat

SHARP Protection Team successfully conducted a one-day capacity-building training session for Punjab police officials at the Police Training School, Rawat, Rawalpindi. The session was part of SHARP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement’s capacity to understand and implement Refugee and Human Rights Laws in Pakistan. A total of 45 police officers participated in the training, which emphasized the crucial role of police in protecting vulnerable communities, particularly Afghan nationals, during the ongoing emergency situation. The event began with a warm welcome by Mr. Malik Muhammad Amir, Course Commander, followed by an inspiring address by Mr. Mudassar Javed, CEO, SHARP. He paid tribute to martyred police officials, acknowledged the vital role of law enforcement as frontline defenders of human rights, and emphasized their importance during humanitarian crises involving Afghan nationals.

Mr. Mudassar highlighted the need for strong collaboration between civil society and police to ensure inclusive protection for refugees. He concluded by thanking the Punjab Police for their continued support and reaffirmed SHARP’s commitment to enhancing their capacity through awareness, legal empowerment, and training initiatives.

Mr. Syed Muhammad Saleem, Protection Project Coordinator, gave a detailed briefing on SHARP’s Protection Project and the legal and humanitarian support being extended to Afghan refugees across Pakistan. The training sessions were conducted by Ms. Aneela Sarfaraz (Senior Legal Protection Expert) and Mr. Habib Kareem (Protection Lawyer), who engaged participants through interactive presentations, group activities, real-life case studies, and a “power walk” to highlight human rights challenges. The training concluded with a post-assessment and open feedback session, which revealed a positive impact on participants’ understanding of refugee protection and their role in safeguarding dignity and human rights.
