Society for Human Rights & Prisoners' Aid (SHARP-Pakistan)

Striving for a Human Rights friendly Pakistan

Message from Chairman

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for SHARP-Pakistan’s extraordinary 25-year journey as a dedicated humanitarian organization. Over the past quarter-century, SHARP has not only established itself as a leading national force but has also earned a distinguished reputation for its tireless advocacy and unwavering commitment to advancing human rights and safeguarding vulnerable populations. Through our collective efforts, SHARP has made a profound and lasting impact, transforming the lives of those who need it most.

SHARP-Pakistan envisions a future where human rights are integral to the fabric of society, and we have been actively engaging with key stakeholders—both at the national and international levels—to bring this vision to life. Despite facing challenges, such as the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, SHARP has proven time and again its resilience and determination to deliver programmatic outcomes that protect and empower those we serve. Even when the world was at a standstill, SHARP continued its essential work, adapting to new realities and maintaining a strong focus on the needs of the most marginalized.

We take immense pride in the unique position SHARP-Pakistan holds in advocating for the rights of prisoners across the country. Through a dedicated network of volunteer lawyers and attorneys, we provide legal aid services that make a profound difference in the lives of those who might otherwise go unheard. Our longstanding partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spans over two decades, during which we have provided life-saving protection, legal assistance, and capacity-building programs for Afghan refugees. SHARP-Pakistan has been a driving force in promoting durable solutions under the Solution Strategy for Afghan refugees.

Moreover, we are proud to be an active partner of with the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN), the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA), and the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR), further strengthening our global reach and influence. Our commitment to combatting human trafficking and smuggling has been widely recognized, and SHARP continues to play a pivotal role in the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) efforts both within Pakistan and abroad. We are honored to be part of emergency response initiatives and the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction, further solidifying our standing as a critical player in humanitarian efforts worldwide.

Our team has shown remarkable dedication and enthusiasm in the face of persistent humanitarian problems in the region, which have directly affected Pakistan. Our steadfast dedication to delivering assistance where it is most needed is demonstrated by the essential services we continue to provide to the most vulnerable populations in collaboration with UNHCR.

I am incredibly proud of the SHARP-Pakistan team, whose dedication to excellence, collaboration, innovation, and integrity is truly inspiring. Their tireless efforts are what make SHARP a beacon of hope and a force for positive change. I also wish to extend my deepest appreciation to our board members, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers whose moral and intellectual support has been instrumental in propelling SHARP-Pakistan to new heights of excellence. Lastly, I would like to thank our donors, partners, and all duty-bearers who have placed their trust in SHARP-Pakistan. Together, we will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
