SHARP RDC Teams Participated in Two-day Training with UNHCR on Individual Basic Registration (IBR) and Protection Interpretation in Refugee Settings

The SHARP Islamabad and Karachi RDC teams recently participated in a comprehensive two-day training with UNHCR on Individual Basic Registration (IBR) and Protection Interpretation in Refugee Settings. Facilitated by the UNHCR Registration Team, led by Ms. Nurul Rochyati, the training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of UNHCR’s registration procedures, refugee protection mandates, and effective interpretation strategies.

Day 1 of the training delved into UNHCR’s protection mandate, highlighting the purpose, procedures, and components of Individual Basic Registration (IBR). The sessions, led by UNHCR Registration Associates—Mr. Saeed, Ms. Sarwat, and Ms. Uzma—featured presentations and interactive activities aimed at enhancing participants’ practical knowledge and understanding of the registration process.

Day 2 focused on Protection Interpretation in Refugee Settings, with specialized sessions for interpretation staff and caseworkers. Participants engaged in lively discussions and activities that addressed the code of conduct, challenges, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) essential for effective interpretation in refugee contexts.

These sessions provided a robust framework for interpreters and caseworkers to navigate complex scenarios and uphold professional standards.

SHARP’s Project Director-ICT, Mr. Aatif Afzal, commended the participants’ dedication and appreciated UNHCR’s efforts in organizing this impactful training, reinforcing collaboration for the protection of persons of concern.
