One-day Capacity building training for Police Officials (Jhelum)

A one day Training Workshop was organized for Police Officials on “Human Rights and Refugee Laws” at Dewan-e-Saeed Hotel, Jhelum on 16th August, 2018.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Participants:

The participants included around 58 police officials including DSP, SHO, SI, ASI, Moharar, Head Constables and Constables.

Participants’ details were gathered at the registration desk by filling registration forms. The training formally started with the recitation of Holy Quran. Mr. Irfan Afridi (Lawyer, Alac Islamabad) recited a few verses of Holy Quran. Mr. Taufiq Ahmed welcomed all the participants and thanked them for their time and presence.

Introduction & Presentation on Human Rights

Mr. Mudassar Javed (Project Director SHARP) presented a brief introduction of SHARP and its services across Pakistan including free legal Aid, advice, and assistance to Afghan and non-Afghans Refugees and Asylum seekers in Pakistan, under UNHCR mandate.

He briefed the objectives of the session for a clear understanding of workshop. Then he presented the concepts of human rights, universal declaration of Human Rights and related it with the Constitution of Pakistan.

Presentation on Foreigner’s Act

Mr. Taufiq Ahmed briefed the participants about scope of Foreigner’s Act, 1946. He explained the sections of the act and its implications on Afghan refugees. He also explained the procedure of verification of PoR card by sending their card number to “7000”.

Presentation on “Refugees Rights” by Mr. Tauseef Ullah

Mr. Tauseef Ullah (UNHCR Representative) presented the details of Refugee Rights. He started his session by introducing United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its mandate in Pakistan. He further mentioned that mandate of UNHCR is to provide protection to refugees and find out durable solution to their problems. He also explained the “Principle of Refoulment”.

Closing Remarks by Guest of Honor

DSP Head Quarter Mr. Zia Ullah, DSP Crime Mr. Shahid Nazir and DSP Legal Mr. Muhammad Sharif graced the occasion as Guests of Honor.

Speaking to the audience, Mr. Shahid extended special thanks to SHARP-Pakistan and UNHCR team for organizing successful training for police officials. He also appreciated SHARP & UNHCR for providing this learning opportunity to the police officials and thanked all the participants for benefitting from this training workshop. He urged the participants for a commitment of serving humanity at their best without any discrimination.

Closing and Vote of Thanks

Mr. Mudassar Javed extended special thanks to all the Guests of Honor for gracing the occasion and the participants (especially female police officials) for their presence and interaction. He also appreciated SHARP team for conducting a successful training.

Distribution of Certificates

The workshop concluded with the ceremony of certificates distribution among the participants. Mr. Mudassar Javed and Tauseef Ullah then presented shields to honorable Chief Guests.
