Preparing Future Champions of Justice: SHARP Conducts Transformative Exposure Visit for Women Lawyers

Bridging knowledge with practical experience, participants of the SHARP-Women Capacity Building Programme, supported by the German Embassy Islamabad, undertook an enriching exposure visit to key justice and law enforcement institutions in Karachi. Led by Mr. Aatif Afzal, Project Director, SHARP Pakistan, the visit provided young women lawyers with firsthand insight into Pakistan’s justice system and gender-responsive legal mechanisms.
The delegation visited the Central Police Office (CPO), where DSP Mr. Zulfiqar Abbasi, In-Charge Human Rights Cell, and AIG Mr. Asif Bugio, Human Rights & GBV Prevention, briefed participants on police responses to gender-based violence, human rights protection, crime investigation, and emergency response systems. At the Sindh Police Forensic Laboratory, AIG Mr. Javed Baloch and his team demonstrated modern forensic procedures and the vital role they play in criminal investigations.
Participants also visited the Sindh Assembly, where they learned about legislative processes, interacted with Mr. Ayaz Tunio, Chairman, Sindh Bar Council, and participated in a mock parliamentary session. The final visit to the Office of the Acting Chief Surgeon, Sindh Police, Dr. Sumaiyya Syed, offered valuable insights into medico-legal procedures and the role of forensic medical examinations in ensuring justice for survivors of violence.
The exposure visit concluded with a farewell dinner, marking the successful completion of a transformative learning journey. Through practical exposure, SHARP Pakistan is preparing young women lawyers to champion justice and gender equality.
